NEWBURGH – Singer and actress Vanessa Williams will be performing a holiday concert benefitting San Miguel Academy of Newburgh later this month.
The Westchester resident was asked to hold the concert by Father Mark Connell, the founder of the academy and long-time priest at St. John’s and St. Mary’s in Chappaqua where her family worships.
Performing both Christmas tunes and many of her hits to raise money for the academy is her way to ensure the continued success of the school for boys who might not otherwise have the opportunity to receive an education and better life.
“Fifth to eighth grade is one of those really impressionable ages where they can easily be led the wrong way and (Fr. Connell) has done a tremendous job,” she said.
Williams is holding her event in Westchester.
“The true intention is to make as much money to support this school,” she said and “I would do anything Fr. Mark asked me to do” to support San Miguel. The concert will be held on Tuesday, December 18 at 7 p.m., at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center.
Williams, who has visited San Miguel Academy in the past, said she has never thought of performing a benefit concert right in Newburgh but if asked to do so, would consider it.
Tickets for this event are $100 with VIP meet and greet tickets at $200 for just 20 people.
Performing with Williams will be Frank Shiner and his All-Star Band.
