Gas station robbery suspect charged with attempted murder

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Police in the Town of Poughkeepsie arrested a 26 Hyde Park man for the knifepoint robbery of a clerk at the Mobil gas station at 3489 North Road early Saturday.
Investigation led to the arrest of Matthew Garcia, 26, later that day.
Garcia is alleged to have gone into the store around 1:42 a.m., pulled the knife and cut the clerk’s throat and stabbed the clerk several times in the torso before stealing money from the business and fleeing.
The clerk was conscious and able to assist investigators and was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police did not say if the victim was a man or woman.
Garcia was charged with attempted murder and armed robbery and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
Town of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted by police from the cities of Poughkeepsie and Kingston, Town of Fishkill, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.
