Sain Building a temporary refuge

NEW CITY – An outbreak of the fungal infection ringworm at the Hi Tor Animal Care Center in Rockland County has prompted County Executive Edwin Day to open the doors of its currently unoccupied Sain building in New City for the diagnosis, treatment and housing of the affected animals while the infection is eradicated from the Hi Tor facility.
The Hi Tor board reached out to the county to help the sick animals before than can be returned to a fully cleaned and sanitized shelter.
The county department of health is providing oversight of their operations.
The Sain building will not be open to the public because of the health and safety concerns.
Hi Tor is developing a protocol for the treatment of all affected animals.
