NEW YORK – Crews will be installing a new cab signal system at Hudson Junction on the Port Jervis Metro-North Rail Line this weekend requiring buses to substitute for trains between Port Jervis and Harriman. The service switch will run from late Friday evening through early Sunday.
The new system will support the installation of Positive Train Control, designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.
Crews will also be installing antenna poles, transponders and wayside interface units, which are computers that are located along the right-of-way that process information about the status of switches and signals. The equipment must be in place to make Positive Train Control operational on the branch.
