POUGHKEEPSIE – City Police in Poughkeepsie are investigating
a shooting that occurred around noon on Wednesday.
Police were dispatched to 52 Catharine Street where they found a car that had been involved in an accident and struck a tree. The driver, a 34-year-old Pawling man, had been shot once in the leg. He was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center for treatment.
The victim told police he stopped on Catharine Street to adjust his Bluetooth when an unknown man jumped in his car, shot him and took his Gucci backpack containing several thousand dollars before jumping into a maroon SUV and fleeing the area.
A Poughkeepsie school is located less than a block away. Police Captain Richard Wilson said he did not believe it was on lockdown due to a lack of an immediate threat in the area.
As of Wednesday night, police did not say if a suspect was in custody.
