RHINEBECK – The body of
a 76-year-old man who jumped off the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge around
3:20 a.m. was recovered in the early afternoon.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a suspicious
vehicle on the bridge in the middle of the night. The vehicle was unattended
with evidence that the driver had jumped.

Patrol boats from the Dutchess and Ulster Sheriff’s Offices were
deployed and the Coast Guard provided data on recommended search areas
based on changing environmental conditions.

Just before 12:30 p.m., Dutchess County marine patrol deputies located
the man’s body in the river. It was turned over to the Dutchess
County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and autopsy.

The Coast Guard, New York State Bridge Authority, Ulster County Sheriff’s
Office and Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted with
the investigation.
