AMENIA – Route 22 in the Town of Amenia was shut down in both directions between Amenia Town Hall and the intersection with Route 343 Saturday when a fully loaded gasoline tanker truck became disabled when its brakes caught fire.
The tank was not compromised and there was no release of any hazardous materials, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Amenia and Wassaic fire departments extinguished the fire and mitigated any potential danger.
The road was closed for an hour while a heavy-duty tow truck responded to remove the big rig.
