9/11 first responder given a hero’s farewell

HIGHLAND MILLS – First
responders from across the Hudson Valley and the New York metropolitan
area paid their respects to Michael Hanson of Highland Mills on Friday.
The retired NYPD detective specialist died at age 60 on Friday, October 19 following a long illness from the effects of his response to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
For 19 of his 22 years in law enforcement, he was assigned to the Emergency Services Unit. He was part of the rescue teams for the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the World Trade Center attacks of 1993 and 2001.
Hanson is survived by his wife, Cathleen and three daughters.
