WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County Executive George Latimer brought together over 70 faith leaders from the Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities on Friday to encourage partnerships between religious leaders of all denominations and backgrounds.
“I have a vision of inclusiveness throughout Westchester County, and a strong belief that all voices should be heard, and that everyone should have a seat at the table,” he said. “It is my hope that more will be accomplished when we work together, regardless of our belief, ethnicity or gender.”
Imam Ali Kamel said after the gathering that “Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists and others all met in one place as one family, one community to work together toward a better Westchester County.”
Rabbi Howard Goldsmith termed the session “a wonderful event and a pleasure to be with colleagues from so many faiths, to celebrate our wonderful county.”
Reverend Marva Dolphin said the vent was “a great opportunity and a great idea for the county executive to bring together faith-based leaders, to show that we could unify in helping him build a community that is a great place to live.”
Assistant to the County Executive Crystal Collins, the liaison for Faith Based Partnership Initiatives, said “this icebreaker was a huge success and we are looking forward to many more to come.”
