TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Adam Belizzone, 22, who rents the attic apartment in an apartment building at 12 Lagrange Avenue in the Arlington area of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was taking a shower shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday when fire broke out.
He wasted no time getting out of the building, standing outside in nothing but a hoodie and towel. Once the flames were quelled in the two-alarm blaze, a lieutenant in the Arlington department went inside to retrieve a pair of sweatpants for the displaced tenant.
Arlington Captain William Steenbergh said three of the four apartments in the building were rented at the time of the blaze. Poughkeepsie and Fairview fire departments were called in to assist with additional apparatus and manpower.
Arlington Fire Department Captain Galletta said that it took about an hour to put the fire out because it was “traveling in void spaces inside walls, floors and ceilings from the basement and went up through the roof and extended into the living spaces.”
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.  The displaced residents were assisted by the Red Cross.
