Cities of Mount Vernon, Newburgh, have highest unemployment rates

MID-HUDSON – Ten Mid-Hudson municipalities exceed the region’s 4.0 percent unemployment rate for August, the latest period for which data has been compiled by the state labor department.
The highest rate of unemployment was recorded in the City of Mount Vernon, at 5.7 percent. The City of Newburgh was right behind with 5.5 percent joblessness.
The City of Yonkers and Town of Haverstraw each recorded 5.1 percent rates of unemployment while the City of Poughkeepsie had 4.8 percent joblessness.
The City of Middletown, Town of New Windsor and Village of Harrison each recorded 4.3 percent rates while the City of New Rochelle had a rate of 4.2 percent.
The lowest rate of unemployment in August, 3.3 percent, was recorded in the towns of Monroe and Rye and the City of White Plains.
