Fourth defendant pleads guilty in gang assault, stabbing

GOSHEN – A Middletown man pled guilty on Friday before Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown to a charge of gang assault in connection with an assault and stabbing on March 25.
Joemy Rivera, 24, admitted going with three other people to the victim’s girlfriend’s house in Middletown with the intention of assaulting the victim. Rivera admitted he was aided by three other people and that he stabbed the victim in the back with a knife several times.
The victim sustained a lacerated kidney and punctured lung.
As part of a plea agreement, Rivera will be sentenced to eight years in prison and five years of post-release supervision when he returns to court next month.
On September 27, three other defendants pled guilty in connection with the attack. Kayla Curry, 17, of Middletown, pled guilty to gang assault and assault. Miguel Irizarry, 24, of Middletown, pled guilty to assault. Christian Reyes, 23, of Middletown, pled guilty to attempted assault for allegedly driving the others to the site of the stabbing.
