The old Tri-States Bridge
will disappear soon
PORT JERVIS – Preliminary work for the demolition of the old bridge over the Neversink River and construction of a new one in Port Jervis has begun.
Mayor Kelly Decker said old buildings will be razed to make way for the temporary bridge.
“They are actually already doing some of the asbestos work is taking longer for the planned for the buildings where the temporary bridge is going to go,” Decker said. “We should see those down by the week of October 20 and the abutments for the temporary bridge will start right away.”
Construction of the new bridge along with redesign of two downtown intersections and new sidewalks totals some $17 million.
The federal government will pick up 80 percent of the cost with the state paying 15 percent and the remaining five percent covered by the city.
