KINGSTON – The City of Kingston’s new Land Bank will use a $3 million anonymous grant to pay for back taxes on 36 properties owed the city and cover the startup costs for the land bank for the remainder of the year.
Mayor Steven Noble said the purpose is to renovate the buildings and provide affordable housing for the community.
“To be able to renovate and return back to the City of Kingston’s housing stock and be able to have new first time homebuyer families, members of the community that have been looking for affordable housing to be able to move into our neighborhoods and to be able to have these once vacant buildings returned, for some of the properties, beautiful buildings that have existed for many, many years, are just in need of a little renovation,” Noble said.
The grant was channeled through the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.
