Former corrections officer sentenced to prison for beating inmate

NEW YORK – A former correction officer was sentenced on Thursday by US District Judge Kenneth Karas to three years and four months in prison for the November 12, 2013 beating of an inmate at Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill and for falsifying records to cover up the beating.
Carson Morris, 33, of Coconut Creek, Florida pled guilty on November 1, 2017 to assaulting inmate Kevin Moore, 54, at Downstate prison for repeatedly striking him as he lay restrained on the floor.
Moore was hospitalized for two weeks with several serious injuries from the beating, including facial bone fractures, five broken ribs, and a collapsed lung.
Morris also pled to conspiring to violate Moore’s civil rights, as well as falsifying and conspiring to falsify state prison records about the assault.
Four other state corrections officers were charged in connection with the assault and cover-up.
