POUGHKEEPSIE – The complete transformation to the Walkway Over the Hudson park is slated for completion next spring.
The Ulster Welcome Center was recently completed and is open. The new Dutchess Welcome Center is underway along with upgrades to the 21-story Walkway elevator on the Poughkeepsie side of the linear park that spans the Hudson River.
The Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park opened in October 2009 and sees close to 600,000 visitors per year. The Walkway is the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world.
It was constructed atop the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge, which was built in the late 19th century and which was abandoned to railroad traffic after a fire in 1974.

The Walkway has been one of the most popular attractions in the Hudson Valley since it opened nine years ago
