BRONX – Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Joseph Lemm was among six
security forces airmen killed in Afghanistan on December 21, 2015. The
resident of West Harrison was a member of the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart
Airport at Newburgh.

His civilian job was as a sergeant with the New York City Police Department.
A 16-year veteran of law enforcement, Lemm was a highly decorated NYPD
officer with 590 arrests.

On Saturday, fellow officers and family members, including Lemm’s
widow, Christine, joined Blue Lives Matter New York City to honor his
memory by naming Bayshore Avenue Joseph Lemm Way.

Lemm was one of two Stewart guardsmen to be killed when a suicide bomber
on an explosive-laden motorcycle attacked their patrol outside Bagram
Air Field. St. Sgt. Louis Bonacasa also died.

Both airmen were awarded the Bronze Star with V for Valor for their actions
that day.
