MIDDLETOWN – Mayor Joseph
DeStefano would like to hire a consultant to draft a plan to use the trails
at the Middletown city reservoirs for recreational purposes.
He laid out his idea to the common council Monday night, saying it would be an added quality of life amenity for area residents.
“What we are looking to do is to develop a plan that would give
our residents, and possibly others – visitors – the opportunity
to bike and hike throughout our reservoir property,” the mayor said.
“Not camping, not boating – bike and hike – similar
to what they do they do at the New York City reservoirs now.”
DeStefano said a study would cost some $50,000 with a state grant possibly funding half of that.
