WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man was found guilty on charges related
to a violent attempted robbery in a Yonkers residence last summer.
Sidney Lane, 37, was convicted of two counts of attempted robbery following
a jury trial before Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit.
On July 19, 2017, Lane entered a residence on Underhill Street around
12:30 p.m. A mother and her 23-year-old son were at home at the time.
Lane was armed with a gun and demanded money. He brutally pistol-whipped
the victims on the face and head, causing injury.
The victims fought back and the man bit Lane on the face. Lane then fled
the scene and drove away.
Yonkers Police investigated and executed search warrants in Lane’s
home and place of business and by analyzing surveillance video. Forensic
scientists at the county Department of Laboratories and Research developed
DNA results that showed Lane’s blood in the victim’s home.
Police arrested him the following day at his place of business in Tuckahoe.
Lane faces a life sentence when sentenced next month.
