Greene Correctional inmate assaults corrections officer

COXSACKIE – A prisoner at Greene Correctional Facility in Coxsackie attacked a corrections officer without provocation on Monday evening, punching him in the face several times.
The officer was attacked after he gave the inmate several orders to complete his work in the kitchen. The inmate, who was sitting down, refused and then attacked the officer. During the assault, the officer activated his personal alarm and a response team arrived and restrained the inmate.
As the prisoner was being taken to the medical unit, he was combative, spit blood on an officer and kicked him in the shin. The inmate then refused to continue walking resulting in the officers having to carry him to the medical unit. He became combative and kicked an officer in the face.
The inmate was eventually placed in a holding pen in the medical unit.
The officer who was initially assaulted was transported to Albany Medical Center by ambulance for treatment and did not return to work. All other officers involved in the incident remained on the job.
