EAST FISHKILL – A Poughkeepsie man is under arrest following a police chase in the Town of East Fishkill.
East Fishkill officers were called to a report of a stolen car at 11:30 p.m. on June 24 and a short time later, they found the vehicle with a driver near Route 82 and Trinka Lane.
Officer Sean Phillips attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled, failing to comply. Christopher Fidelman, 24, took off at a high rate of speed, turning onto Route 376 and Railroad Avenue. The stolen car struck a parked vehicle and rammed the police car operated by Officer Phillips, who was not injured.
Fidelman continued driving down a rail bed ballast, over a small bridge and then ditched the vehicle, then fleeing on a bicycle. He was captured by Phillips with the assistance of Dutchess County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Petrus and a K9.
Fidelman was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, attempted assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment along with several vehicle and traffic violations.
East Fishkill Police were also assisted by other members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and members of the MTA Police Department.
