VILLAGE OF LIBERTY – A Liberty man is in the Sullivan County Jail without bail following his arrest Wednesday morning for allegedly stealing a pickup truck from the owner’s driveway in the Village of Liberty and then burglarizing a business on Route 52.
Village police were alerted to the stolen truck around 3 a.m. on Wednesday and an hour later they located it parked at a closed business. While investigating, they observed a window at the business had been damaged and removed and they saw an individual inside walking around with a flashlight.
When the suspect, Clayton Jones, 45, of Liberty, spotted the officers, he took off into a back room, but the police entered the building and took him into custody.
Jones was charged with burglary, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, all as felonies, and criminal possession of drugs and possession of burglar’s tools as misdemeanors. Police found him in possession of a quantity of suboxone.
