WARWICK – Police continue to piece together the circumstances that led to a police officer shooting and killing a man, who charged at them with a knife.
The Warwick officer shot the man, said to be in his 30s, at about 3 p.m. on Saturday when officers responded to a residence at 24 Wheeler Street in the Village of Warwick for a report of a violent domestic incident.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said officers attempted to calm down the individual who charged at them with the weapon. An officer opened fire shooting the man, who later died at St. Anthony’s Community Hospital.
Hoovler said Warwick Police will handle the case administratively and State Police will handle it criminally. The DA expects the case to be presented to the grand jury to determine whether the police officer acted appropriately within the law.
