WARWICK – Police shot
and killed a man, said to be in his 30s, when he charged at them with
a knife. Officers responded to a residence at 24 Wheeler Street in the
Village of Warwick at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said officers attempted
to calm down the individual who charged at them with the weapon. An officer
opened fire shooting the man, who later died at St. Anthony’s Community
Hospital.
Hoovler said Warwick Police will handle the case administratively and
State Police will handle it criminally. The DA expects the case to be
presented to the grand jury to determine whether the police officer acted
appropriately within the law.
