STEWART AIRPORT – One year ago Norwegian Air began nonstop service from New York-Stewart International Airport at Newburgh to Europe.
The airline has been flying to Edinburg, Scotland, Shannon, Ireland, Dublin and Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Bergen, Norway.
Stewart Manager Ed Harrison said passenger count more than doubled from the Hudson Valley airport because of the Norwegian service.
“On so many levels it is working well as a driver of economic development, a driver of employment and we are serving the traveling public by giving them options in the New York metropolitan area with Norwegian,” he said.
Harrison said he will be meeting with Norwegian Air officials about additional service to Europe including the possibility of larger aircraft to travel further distances.
