POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie City Police Department is authorized for 96 sworn officers, but it is down to under 80.
Mayor Robert Rolison said those vacant slots should start to be filled shortly.
“We are actively now interviewing individuals for vacant police positions,” the mayor said. “Our expectation is we are going to be able to hire some folks within the next month or so. There is an academy starting, I believe, in the middle of the summer.”
The money for the officers is already allocated in the city budget.
