Maloney can’t lose. If he does not lock up the Democratic
nomination for attorney geneal, he can still run for
another term in Congress,

WASHINGTON – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) ended
speculation today by announcing he is running for New York State Attorney
General.

Three other Democrats have announced for the post, therefore, the party
line will go to the winner of a September primary election. Maloney has
been nominated for re-election to the House of Representatives so should
he lose the primary, he would run for another term in Washington. Should
he win the primary, he would turn down the nomination for Congress and
another Democrat would be selected to run for that post.

Maloney said while he has enjoyed working for his constituents in the
nation’s capital, he feels he can do much more in Albany.

“I have been down here on the front lines fighting this craziness
here in Washington and I believe I have been doing a pretty good job,
but I am playing defense mostly whether it is protecting healthcare, property
taxpayers, or LGBT equality or net neutrality, and the attorney’s
general’s office is an opportunity to get on offense,” he
said.
Maloney already has some $3 million in his congressional campaign war
chest, which he can use for the state race and he expects to raise even
more.
