NEW PALTZ – Police have two men in custody on charges of armed robbery in a New Paltz apartment at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30.
Charged with one count each of armed robbery were Ali Khalil, 19, and Chevon Lawrence, 21, both of New Paltz.
Police developed information about the suspects and their vehicle. One suspect was located at his home along with the vehicle believed to have been used in the incident. Police contacted the second suspect and negotiated a peaceful surrender at his residence. A warrant search later yielded evidence related to the burglary and the firearm used.
Police said additional charges related to the gun are anticipated.
There were no reports of injuries during the holdup or at either arrest scene.
Both suspects were sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
