BEACON – Assemblyman Frank Skartados’ chief of staff has dropped out of the race for the Assembly.
Steven Gold, the former mayor of the City of Beacon, has been Skartados’ right hand man for several years and shortly after Skartados died recently, Gold announced he would run this fall to fill his former boss’ seat and continue his legacy in Albany.
The 104th District includes the Town and City of Newburgh, cities of Beacon and Poughkeepsie and southern Ulster County.
One week earlier the Ulster County Democratic Committee endorsed Gold for that post, but Orange County Legislator Kevindaryan Lujan, who represents portions of the Town and City of Newburgh, was endorsed by the Orange County Democratic Committee.
