NEW ROCHELLE – City Manager Charles Strome appointed a new police commissioner for the City of New Rochelle. Joseph Schaller was chosen following a national search.
Strome had appointed Schaller as interim commissioner when longtime commissioner Patrick Carroll retired in December 2017.
The manager also promoted Captain Robert Gazzola to deputy commissioner. He has served as head of the Criminal Investigations Division since December 2015.
“Since our transition late last year, Schaller and Gazzola have demonstrated their ability to lead the department both now and into the future,” said Strome.
Schaller has been with the department since 1974 and worked his way through the ranks.
Gazzola joined the department in 1986 and also rose through the ranks.
