YORKTOWN – Two passing motorists pulled a woman out of her burning vehicle after it crashed into a rock wall on the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown.
State Police said the vehicle had overturned and caught fire near exit 14 (Baldwin Road), on Thursday trapping the unconscious driver, Linda Gironda, 56, of Yorktown, inside.
Brian Geary, 30, of East Fishkill and an unknown passerby, stopped to assist Gironda before emergency services personnel arrived. With the doors locked, Geary smashed the windshield with a baseball bat and the two Good Samaritans pulled her to safety.
Gironda was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Yorktown EMS with serious injuries, State Police said.
Yorktown firefighters extinguished the fire.
