POUGHKEEPSIE – State Police have concluded their investigation into the SUV-pedestrian accident that claimed the lives of a mother and her 10-month-old baby Sunday night and there will apparently be no charges filed against the driver.
Troopers said the motorist, a 53-year-old Fishkill man who remained at
the scene, was not speeding, was not impaired by drugs or alcohol and
was not issued any vehicle and traffic citations.
At about 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, Zuleyma Lopez, 28, was crossing Route 52 in the Town of Fishkill with her infant son, Abel Torres-Lopez, and three other children, when the SUV struck them. The mother and child were pronounced dead at the scene. The other three children were taken to the hospital for treatment.
