Saugerties woman arrested after cashing check under an Oregon woman’s name

SAUGERTIES – A Saugerties
woman is in the Ulster County Jail without bail after she allegedly cashed
a $4,500 check on an account she opened using the identity of an Oregon
woman.

Elizabeth Carney, 35, allegedly opened the account under the other person’s
name without their knowledge and then cashed it at the Speedy Mart on
Main Street in the Village of Saugerties on March 3.

Carney was arrested on Wednesday, March 21 following an investigation.

She was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument as a felony
and was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
