NEW PALTZ – The SUNY New Paltz College Council was briefed by President Donald Christian on Tuesday as to measures the school has taken in the event of gun violence on campus.
Christian said University Police officers undergo constant training for such events and the college has other measures in place.
“We have been very carefully and logically a lockdown drill that will expand to full-scale campus lockdown in September,” he said.  “We regularly test our emergency mass notification system and we are identifying some of our highest priorities for ongoing improvements in our readiness to respond to such situations.”
Schools at all levels have been reassessing their active shooter readiness ever since the Parkland, Florida school shooting that took the lives of 17 students and two teachers.
