NEW CITY – A Monsey man was arrested on insurance fraud and other charges for allegedly submitting false information with the New York State Insurance Fund for wages he claimed to lose after being unable to work following an on-the-job accident in 2015.
Jerry Cox, Jr., 54, allegedly filed an insurance fund report on two separate dates in 2017 falsely claiming he had not worked when he had, in fact, opened a meat market in Central Nyack and performed rubbish removal services in Middletown. Because of those false claims, he collected $7,581 in compensation benefits to which he was not entitled.
Cox was also charged with grand larceny and two counts each of falsifying business records, offering a false instrument or filing and fraudulent practices in Workers’ Comp, all as felonies. Bail was set at $5,000 cash or bond.
If convicted, Cox faces up to seven years in state prison.
