Concerned neighbors notified police after not seeing Gafycz for some time

PORT JERVIS – An autopsy on the body of a Port Jervis man found dead in his apartment revealed no signs of trauma or suspicious injuries, Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden said Saturday.
The body of John Gafycz, 57, was discovered in his apartment at 82 East Main Street on Friday after neighbors asked police to check on his welfare. He had not been heard from for a while.
Worden said there is no official cause of death at this time pending toxicology results, which could take four to six weeks to analyze if alcohol, illicit narcotics or prescription medications may have contributed to his death.
Assisting in the investigation are State Police, and the Orange County District Attorney’s and Medical Examiner’s offices.
