FISHKILL – Temperatures were in the 40s on Saturday, but the water
was still cold as dozens took the Polar Plunge at the Sharpe Reservation
on Saturday.
It was the 20th anniversary of the event to raise money for the New York
State Special Olympics.
As of Saturday morning, Special Olympics Chapter founder Chris Hamel said
they raised well over $100,000.
The brave ones who lined up in groups and took the plunge included a couple
of “polar bears.”
State Senator Susan Serino presented a proclamation in honor of the 20th
anniversary of the event.
