Minor injuries to cop and suspect following chase

MIDDLETOWN – A Middletown man wanted as a state parole absconder was arrested on Thursday after a chase through the through the city as he was being pursued by state and city police.
City police were alerted that a car stolen near Allentown, Pennsylvania on February 19 might be in the Middletown area and it was spotted by a trooper on patrol on Route 17M in the Town of Wallkill. The officer pursued the car into the City of Middletown where the city patrol car was struck.
The operator of the stolen car, John Redner, 44, of Middletown was taken into custody. Both he and a Middletown officer were treated at Orange Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released.
Redner was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both as felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanors of unlawfully fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest and driving while ability impaired by drugs and sent to the Orange County Jail without bail.
State Police at the Wallkill barracks were assisted by Middletown City, troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks, and the Orange and Sullivan County District Attorneys’ offices.
