Kayaker missing in Wallkill River at Rifton

RIFTON – State Police
from both sides of the Hudson River spent the last two days searching
for a kayaker who was reported missing on Tuesday. An overturned kayak
was recovered from the Wallkill River in Rifton near Route 213.

State Police Underwater Recovery Team members searched the river with
an air boat and Sonar equipment Tuesday and Wednesday. As of late Wednesday
evening, the man has not been located.

A person has been identified as missing and believed to be the kayaker.

Several agencies have been assisting in the search, including State Police
at Highland; State Police Underwater Recovery Team Troops F and K; Ulster
County Sheriff’s office with its dive team; Rosendale Police, fire
departments from Rifton, Ulster Hose #5, Tillson, New Paltz, and Esopus;
Esopus Ambulance; Mobile Life Support Services; and Ulster County Department
of Emergency Management.
