Five Rockland County residents charged with stealing welfare benefits

NEW CITY – Five people were arrested in Rockland County for crimes related to welfare fraud following an investigation by the DA’s Office Special Investigations Unit and Rockland County Social Services Department Special Investigations Unit.
Jermika Depas, 30, of Spring Valley, was charged with one count of welfare fraud, three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument and three counts of offering a false instrument for filing. She is accused of submitting false documents claiming she was paying rent, when, in fact, she was not. She received an overpayment of over $5,000 as a result.
Leah Bishop, 28, of Spring Valley was charged with failing to report the full extent of her income and received overpayment of benefits of more than $7,000.
Carolyn McLean, 62, of Spring Valley, was charged with offering a false instrument for filing and is accused of not reporting the full extent of her income resulting in the overpayment of more than $8,000.
Elana Cineas, 28, of Nanuet, was charged with offering a false instrument for filing for not reporting the full extent of her income resulting in the overpayment of more than $3,000.
Young Jin Chun, 56, of Airmont was charged with offering a false instrument for filing and received overpayment of more than $23,000 as a result.
