TUXEDO – A Spring Valley man was charged with assault with intent to cause injury to a police officer as a felony following a traffic stop on the Thruway in the Town of Tuxedo.
State Police pulled over a car driven by Chaim Surkis, 29, of Spring Valley at 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 13 for a traffic violation and without warning, he fled the scene.
After crashing his vehicle, troopers attempted to place Surkis under arrest and a brief struggle ensured. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The injured trooper was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
On January 22, Surkis was charged with assault, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.
