WHITE PLAINS – Two men will be spending time behind bars for rapes they committed in Westchester County.
Abdool Azeez, 39, of Yonkers was sentenced on Tuesday to 21 years in state prison after a jury convicted him in November of three separate counts of rape.
Azeez met the victim, a 14-year-old child, in 2013 while doing construction on her grandmother’s Mount Vernon business and home. Despite knowing the child was a minor, Azeez, then 35, coaxed her into a sexual relationship that would continue to January 2014 when the victim’s mother discovered it through social media.
An arrest warrant was issued for Azeez, who fled to Guyana where he remained for two years in an effort to avoid apprehension. He returned to the US when the victim turned 17 and was arrested on the warrant.
When released from prison, he must register as a sex offender and will be on post-release supervision for 10 years.
In the other case, Clevon Reeves, 36, of the Bronx, who pled guilty in November to first-degree rape, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison after DNA linked him to the rape of a Mount Vernon woman in 2014. On November 22, 2014, as the victim entered her apartment, Reeves, who was unknown the victim, pushed her inside from behind, forced her to the floor and attacked her. During the rape, he choked the victim.
Reeves fled. The woman immediately called 911. The victim was taken to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries and submitted to a sexual assault evidence collection kit. A DNA profile was developed and on January 30, 2015, Reeves was identified as the suspect in the rape. Following a lengthy search, Reeves was arrested on October 25, 2016 by Mount Vernon Police and the Westchester DA’s Office.
