TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Town of Wallkill man is charged with two counts of cruelty to animals and two counts of failing to provide for an animal after Orange County Sheriff’s deputies found the dogs kept outside in metal fenced pens.
The dogs, a gray female pitbull and a black female Rottweiler, were both emaciated and had no food or water. The dogs were rescued and placed in the care of Pets Alive in Wallkill.
Deputies had gone to a South Shore Drive address on December 28, 2017 to serve a felony warrant for a person wanted by the sheriff’s office.
Through investigation, deputies determined the owner, Wade Hynes, 39, was in Sullivan County. The State Police were contacted and Hynes was taken into custody. He was sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond.
Deputies were assisted in their investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
“During the winter months it is imperative that we take care and shelter our pets,” said Sheriff Carl DuBois. “Leaving pets outside without the appropriate shelter during these brutal cold snaps is unlawful and inhumane.”
