BEDFORD – Icy road conditions
are believed to be the cause of a six-vehicle pile-up that resulted in
the deaths of a Lee, Massachusetts woman and a three-year-old boy.
State Police said a box truck driven by Henry Valencia, 59, of the Bronx
on Interstate 684 in Bedford at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December
30, was unable to sop because of icy road conditions and struck another
vehicle that was stopped in traffic.
The driver of that car, Kerry Hamill, 40, of Massachusetts, and a three-year-old
passenger, were both killed. Hamill’s wife, Lauren Pellegrino, 40,
sustained minor injuries and was transported to Westchester Medical Center
with minor injuries, police said.
The initial collision caused a chain reaction involving four other vehicles.
