Berkman
MIDDLETOWN – Long-time Orange County Legislator Jeffrey Berkman will retire from that post this weekend and in commemoration of his many years of serving the City of Middletown, he was presented with the key to the city by Mayor Joseph DeStefano.
Berkman, the one-time leader of the minority Democratic caucus, served for over 20 years and when he was recently honored by the Middletown Common Council, he said there were a number of critical issues in which he played a role.
“There was saving Valley View, the nursing home, rebuilding the government center, Indigot water, which Middletown and the county shared for future development with job opportunities and growth, environmental questions that are important,” Berkman said.
But, Berkman said two issues stand out as the first ones he addressed when he took office: parks and libraries.
Common Council President Miguel Rodrigues said Berkman was a “driving
force” in the city.
Berkman said he plans on staying active in the community where he was born and raised.
