TARRYTOWN – Installation of the new Mario Cuomo Bridge’s last four precast concrete pier caps near the Westchester shoreline has been completed.
The 900-ton pier caps were prefabricated in Chesapeake, Virginia and barged to the project for installation.
Roadwork construction for the bridge installation is suspended during peak holiday travel times through New Year’s weekend to make travel easier.
The Thruway Authority will also continue its 47-year tradition of offering free coffee and hot tea to travelers at all 27 travel plazas from 11 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 7 a.m. on New Year’s morning to promote safe and alert driving.
