STONY POINT – Police in the Town of Stony Point had a suspect in custody within hours after a home on Bender Court has been broken into around noon on Wednesday, December 20.
Xavier Urena, 34, who is homeless, was charged with burglary, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police were tipped off to the crime when a resident reported that two men were in a vehicle at his neighbor’s house. Believing it was suspicious, the neighbor took down the license plate number.  A computer check revealed the car belonged to the homeowner, who had no knowledge of who had his car.
Within a few hours, the vehicle was found in the Village of Haverstraw with Urena behind the wheel. Officers found him in possession of proceeds stolen from the Bender Court home. He was sent to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $60,000 cash bail.
The investigation is continuing to identity and arrest of a second person who was the car.
