STEWART AIRPORT – The number of people to fly at Stewart International Airport in September and October grew dramatically because of the new international service on Norwegian Airlines.
Norwegian’s flights to four cities – Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dublin and Shannon, Ireland; and Bergen, Norway – continue to drive up passenger numbers at the Newburgh area airport, Business Development Director Michael Torelli told the Stewart Airport Commission on Tuesday.
“In September, we saw 45,667 passengers and that was an 89.1 percent increase over the previous September and in October, we had 51,697 passengers and that was a 117 percent increase over the previous October,” Torelli said.
Year-to-date, passenger count was up 53 percent, to 356,714 people carried. With two months left to report this year, Torelli predicted Stewart will exceed 400,000 passengers.
Cargo tonnage carried at Stewart was down in September and October, but with the holiday season upon us, that is expected to increase.
