NEW WINDSOR – Fire investigators from Orange County and the state spent all day Tuesday at the Verla International building in Vails Gate, the scene of Monday’s fatal explosions and fire. One man was killed and dozens were injured.
Orange County Fire Coordinator Vini Tankasali said no conclusions have been reached at this point.
“Right now we have a joint investigation with New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control due to we had a fatality in the building and the injuries and a large value loss in the building itself,” Tankasali said. “They are currently investigating it; our investigators are on-site right now working through to determine a cause and hopefully we will be able to announce something shortly.”
Chief Assistant Orange County District Attorney Chris Borek said his office is also involved in the investigation.
“Any time that there is a fatality where there might be some criminality involved, the district attorney always works with our law enforcement partners in investigating that,” Borek told Mid-Hudson News.”
Tankasali said there is significant damage to the building in the area where the explosions and fire occurred.
