NEWBURGH – Some 130 employees of Verla International were treated at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital after the explosions and fire on Monday.
Hospital President Joan Cusack McGuirk  had nothing but praise for the job the first responder community did during the incident.
“We drill for this, but this was the real deal and I will tell you this hospital performed spectacularly and also with the first responders, the community resources went really well. Thank goodness most low acuity; one was admitted and one was transferred to Westchester for burns,” she said on Tuesday.
Between the injured Verla employees and the normal emergency room volume, McGuirk said they saw 250 people in the ER on Monday.
